Shoulder Surgery

Rotator Cuff Surgery
“I had been living with shoulder pain for six years where the underlying problem could not be diagnosed back home. I was left to deal with daily pain and reliance on alternative treatments (physiotherapy, massage, chiropractics, active release technique, Graston techniques, acupuncture, Intra-Muscular Stimulation, Cortisone injections, ice, anti-inflammatory). None of these proved effective in dealing with two labrum tears. The MR Arthography required to diagnose the problem was not performed at home and actually denied when requested. After 6 years of pain, reduced quality of life, and a substantial investment of money in seeking alternative therapies, I decided to investigate medical tourism, which lead me to Surgical Tourism Canada.

Before embarking on this journey, I did extensive Internet research and confirmed that India has extremely competent medical professionals, state of the art medical equipment, very good track record, and affordable treatment. My experience only reinforced these findings. All arrangements made by STC was up to my expectations. All the tests required to diagnose my problem were administered and analyzed in a record amount of time. For example, a MR Arthrogram was performed and analyzed in less than 24 hours after being ordered by the doctor and the surgery scheduled within 1-2 days following the diagnostics. The doctors attitude is that if you have pain, the will keep investigating until the root cause is found. This attitude was refreshing. The doctors work in teams and will consult each other with the patient in the loop. I was often visited by 3-4 doctors who would take the time to detail the issue, the surgical approach, and recovery plan. The nurses (sisters) compassion, caring, empathy, professionalism, response time to my needs were second to none. It was refreshing to see a hospital where gurneys (with patients) do not clutter the hallways. The overall quality of service of the medical staff, outpatient service, and support personnel should be a model to many countries. One of my fears was the potential language which was quickly put to rest since the cadre of medical professionals speak fluently English. After surgery, you will not be quickly be disposed of to make room for another patient but will only be released once both sides feel that it is safe and comfortable returning home. I was given all the medical reports, XRays, MRI slides, to include video clips of the arthroscopic procedure! The overall medical cost was also relatively low. I have spent more money in alternative therapies over 6 years than the cost of fixing the problem once and for all in India.

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with all the quality of care and medical services received at the Apollo hospital, and all arrangements made by Surgical Tourism Canada, Yasmeen Sayeed, in facilitating this surgery, and would not hesitate to repeat the experience or recommend it to my friends and family.”
